Just Bounce!

1 11 2009

Thankfully I was feeling a lot better yesterday than I had felt all week!  It seems as though my body has finally gotten use to the new meds (or lack thereof).  It was a tough week.  It was reminiscent of that morning sickness feeling that I couldn’t shake when I was pregnant.  Yuck!

We had my daughter’s Halloween / Birthday party yesterday and it was really cute to see all of the kids dressed in their costumes.  But, man, it was SOOOO hot!  Those who know me, know how much I like to entertain, and I usually put on a big spread when I have people over.  So as not to tempt myself, I kept it real simple yesterday.  For the adults, I had hummus and pita chips, a veggie tray, and iced tea and water — all pretty healthy choices.  For the kids I had cupcakes, cheese puffs (their favorite and my least favorite) and pretzels.  The party went well, and I resisted all bad temptations.  I had one cupcake – not bad at all.

I was not able to make my workout on Friday because I was still feeling so crappy.  And, due to the party schedule, I was not able to make a workout on Saturday.  What’s a girl to do?!?!  Well, after all the kids left, I slid into the bounce house and I bounced.  Who knew this was such a workout?  My heart rate was up.  I was sweating (and it wasn’t just the heat).  My shins were screaming at me to stop (which seems to be the only thing they tell me since our first GFC challenge)!  Despite all of this, I didn’t realize just how much of a workout it was until I went to get out of bed this morning.  At first I couldn’t understand why I was hurting so bad.  Then, I looked out the front door and saw the bounce house.  It all became crystal clear!

Tomorrow I head out to San Diego for a few days for work.  I’m hoping the food choices in San Diego will be a lot healthier than those in Virginia.  From the menu options I’ve seen thus far, I think I’m right.  Plus, this trip is shorter, so I should do ok.  I’m still worried about being able to fit in a workout, though.  The meeting schedule this week is exactly the same as it was two weeks ago.  If the gym doesn’t open earlier than 6AM, I’m in trouble.  I’ll do what I can in my room.  I’ll even pack my resistance bands, so that I can get some resistance training in.  I’ll also pack the 10-minute workout video just in case.  (Ten minutes is better than nothing, and honestly, I am always sore the next day, so I know it’s doing something!)  If push comes to shove, I’ll just see if I can find a bounce house! :)
